The protection of your racking is an important health and safety issue. There is however no regulations regarding the protection of racking uprights. There is an FEM guideline which states that the uprights at the end of runs should be protected to a height of 400mm but that is all. There is also FEM standards that should be adhered to.
There are two basic options as to upright protectors both have there advantages.
Floor mounted options
These are steel guards bolted to the concrete floor slap that wrap around the racking upright. Technically these are better as there is a physical gap between the guard and the upright however when hit they cause damage to the concrete floor slap and they are expensive to fit.
Plastic wrap around protectors
There are numerous plastic wrap around protectors some are quite basic being a plastic pipe or similar cut to fit with a sponge insert others such as the award winning Protect-It is a purpose designed product which is designed to dissipate the impact efficiently.
