THE THREAT OF CHINA

As in most manufacturing industries China and the far east are making inroads into the racking market. However quality is a major concern as China does not appear to have the same across the board quality as European manufacturers. However many quality conscious major companies such as Mercedes Benz have opened factories in China. As far as the racking manufacturers go there is vast difference in quality between them. There are however a number who are taking productions seriously and the quality of manufacture is as good as much of Europe. They have one disadvantage in that the quality of Chinese steel is not as high as that of Europe. The more responsible manufacturers recognise this fact and compensate by increasing the amount of steel used and by having tighter tolerances for example the good Chinese racking manufacturers design there beams with a 1 in 250 beam deflection compared to the European standard of 1 in 200 and the USA standard of 1 in 180.
