Live Pallet Racking

Overview of Live Pallet Racking

Live Pallet racking otherwise known as Pallet Live Storage or Pallet Flow racking, is suitable for FIFO (First In First Out) storage of goods with a high rate of turnover and fast access to goods is required, but utilises up to 60% less space than a conventional pallet racking warehouse.

Pallets are loaded on to dedicated lanes of inclined rollers. These allow the pallet to gently role down from the input end to the off load end. Brakes within the rollers control the speed of the pallet as it approaches the off load end.

Features of Live Pallet Racking

  • FIFO gives automatic stock rotation
  • Moves stock from end of the warehouse to the other if designed well
  • Good for load collation in goods out areas

Specifications of Live Pallet Racking

  • Fast picking access due to highly flexible and variable roller tracks, gradient and storage level positions
  • Pallet Weight: Up to 1200 kg
  • Channel depth depends on the number of pallets

Uses of Live Pallet Racking

Live Pallet Racking is suited to operations where space is on a premium but you have storage of a product that needs to be rotated frequently such as in the food industry (due to perishable products). This also works well feeding in to loading docks from a warehouse rather than putting pallets block stacked in lanes on the warehouse floor meaning that you can increase the capacity of your marshalling area.

Drawbacks of Live Pallet Racking

  • Expensive
  • Needs maintenance
  • Can lose space in the height as the on load needs to be higher than the of load end

Cost & capacity of Live Pallet Racking

  • Initial cost: 1551
  • Typical 5 year cost: 209
  • Effective utilisation: 85
